The Barnstable Ponds Coalition’s Pond Protection Pledge
Barnstable’s ponds are a treasured part of our community and protecting them is a shared responsibility. The Barnstable Ponds Coalition’s Pond Protection Pledge invites everyone in Barnstable to take simple, meaningful steps to help keep our ponds clean and healthy for future generations.
As environmental threats such as climate change, habitat loss, rising temperatures, and pollution become more visible, the need for action is more urgent than ever. The good news is that simple choices at home and on our properties can make a real difference.
The Four-Part Pledge
The Pledge asks all Barnstable residents, homeowners, and pond associations to:
-
Commit to reducing or eliminating the use of chemical fertilizers and herbicides in your yard.
-
Commit to limiting lawn irrigation, particularly during drought events.
-
Commit to maintaining a natural buffer around your pond.
-
Commit to decreasing or eliminating phosphate-containing household cleaners.
When you take the pledge, the Barnstable Ponds Coalition will provide the yard sign shown with the logo above as proud symbol of your support and your household’s commitment to protecting Barnstable’s ponds.
